Best Things To Do In Paris In Spring: Travel Guide

Gorgeous cherry blossoms near Notre Dame in Paris; one the best things to do in Paris in Spring.

Paris is always a good idea, no matter the season, bringing modest changes in the city of light every season. Spring is around the corner, meaning the city is about to bloom, and the sun will chase away the gloomy winter weather for everyone’s pleasure.

In this post, you’ll learn everything you need to know to enjoy the French capital during this beautiful season, including all the best things to do in Paris in spring!

In my opinion, spring is one of the best times to visit Paris. The city slowly comes back to life and isn’t too crowded yet, so it’s the perfect time to enjoy it.

There are many activities and sightseeing to do in Paris; the city itself might not be the biggest, only 105,4 km² (40,7 mi²), while London is 1,572 km2 (607 mi²), for instance, yet it can still be overwhelming to choose what to do.

If you’re travelling to Paris during the spring, let’s explore the best things to do there.

Tips To Visit Paris in Spring

Officially, Spring starts on the 20th of March in Paris; it is usually still pretty chilly around this time, though! Spring lasts until the 21st of June. A reasonable time frame to visit Paris in spring at its peak is between mid-April to mid-May.

  • The average springtime temperature in Paris oscillates between a chilly 5 degrees Celsius at the beginning of spring in March (although last year, 2022, the weather was way more indulgent, around 10°c) to 25°c toward the end of it in June. Therefore, make sure to pack accordingly.

Although those are some general statistics, the weather has been relatively unpredictable and warmer than usual for the past few years.

  • Visiting Paris in early spring means you will have more chances to get low prices on transportation (flights) as it is still somewhat off the peak season, which occurs later.

Is Paris Nice In The Spring?

Yes! Paris is friendly during springtime; the city feels like it’s returning to life after sleeping for most of the winter. It’s delightful to experience Paris in springtime; you can soak in most Parisian life.

And you’ll beat the heat of summer and get better deals on accommodations and flights.

Also, if you’re coming this year, 2024, I highly recommend visiting in Spring instead of summer, as the Olympic Games will be hosted this summer in Paris, and the capital will be crowded and not enjoyable for those who want to visit.

Best Things To Do In Paris In Spring

Paris is a city full of surprises that are delightful to visit in spring, as it seems to be coming back to life after a long winter sleep. While Paris is also beautiful in winter, and there are a lot of perks to visiting Paris in winter

Check Out The Cherry Blossoms In Paris

Every spring, we are excited about cherry blossoms worldwide. Paris is a perfect place to go on a cherry blossom hunt!

You can find them all over the city, and it’s always a pleasant surprise to find a cherry tree with its pink petals flowing in the wind on the Parisian streets.

However, if you’re not in the mood for a surprise and want to know where the best spots to see cherry blossoms in Paris, here are a few spots you can check out:

  • La coulée verte
  • Parc de Sceaux (30 minutes outside of Paris with the RERB but 100% worth it)
  • Park George Brassens
  • Shakespeare and Co & Notre-Dame Cathedral
  • Hotel De Ville de Paris

Check out my post if you’d like to know all the best spots for cherry blossoms in Paris.

And what’s more, those are just a few exciting spots where you can see cherry blossoms in Paris.

Paris is a romantic city called the city of love for a reason. I think checking out the cherry blossoms is a pretty romantic activity in Paris if you visit with your partner.

Of course, there are more than just cherry blossoms you can check out in Paris during Spring; there are plenty of amazing flowers and lush places.

Check out Paris’s beautiful Parks

Things To Do In Spring In Paris: visit the famous Tuileries Garden in the heart of Paris.
Jardin Des Tuileries

Floral arrangements throughout the city shyly start to bloom when spring begins.
Parks and gardens are, without a doubt, the top places to witness the magic of spring, to feel the breeze through your hair and the soft perfume of the flowers.

There is a considerable list of parks and gardens located in Paris, but if you were only to check out a couple of them, I’d recommend the following:

Jardin Des Plantes // 57 Rue Cuvier, 75005 Paris
Jardin Des Tuileries // 13 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris
Jardin Du Luxembourg // Jardin Du Luxembourg 75006 Paris
Square Des Batignolles // 144bis Rue Cardinet, 75017 Paris
Parc Monceau // 35 Boulevard de Courcelles, 75008 Paris
Parc Des Buttes De Chaumont // 1 Rue Botzaris, 75019 Paris

You can also hunt for cherry blossoms throughout the city—they are everywhere, as I mentioned before! However, they can only be seen at a particular time as their lifespan is shorter than other flowers or plants.

Another great spot to check for flowers is the ” Marché aux fleurs Reine Elizabeth II” market near the Notre Dame Bridge.

  • Adress: 37 Place Louis Lépine, 75004 Paris

Check out my list of all the best parks in Paris for a more in-depth guide to the city’s beautiful green spaces.

Visit One Of Paris Beautiful Greenhouses

Cherry blossoms in Jardin des Plantes in Paris on a beautiful sunny day.
Jardin Des Plantes in Spring

Jardin des Serres D’auteuil

Located in the Bois de Boulogne, this greenhouse with a beautiful metal framework was built under Louis XIV in 1761. You can find no less than 6 000 plants across five spaces; “La grande serre” “Serre Ouest” “La serre est”, “la serre aux azalées” and “La serre aux plamiers”.

Serres du Jardin Des Plantes

Another set of beautiful greenhouses is located in the Jardin des Plantes. Over the past decades, they have been demolished, rebuilt, and redesigned under Louis XIII.

There are five greenhouses in total yet only four are accessible to the public: “La serre des fôretes tropicales humides” , “La serre des déserts et des milieux arides”, “La Serre de Nouvelle-Calédonie” and “La serre de l’histoire des plantes”.

I also mentioned the greenhouses of Paris as some of the best things to do when it rains in Paris. Of course, it is less likely to rain in Paris during springtime, but you never know!

Have A Pic Nic in Paris

After enjoying the sight of nature, here comes the next best thing to do in Paris in Spring: a logical follow up to what we were talking about above a picnic!

There are about 500 hectares of parks and gardens.

So, plenty of spaces exist for a lovely picnic while enjoying the gorgeous spring weather.

Every Parisian loves to picnic or drink along the Quai De Seine when the weather becomes more enjoyable. It’s not rare to find people gathered around the river sharing drinks or food.

Tino Rossi’s garden in the 5th Arrondissement is a famous spot on the Seine banks.

Remember what I said above about cherry blossoms?

You can organise your picnic hanami-style near Paris if you’d like to while the cherry trees bloom! The Parc Des Sceaux is located in the suburb about 20 minutes away from transit and is the best place you could ask for to enjoy a picnic under the cherry trees!

Enjoy Afternoon Tea At Nina’s

IMG 6121

Or some tea. This is not a place where you can have a drink “en terrasse”, but Nina’s Paris is one of the cutest tea rooms in Paris! The shop’s decor is also very spring-like – perfect!

If you’re into Versailles and Marie Antoinette, then Nina’s Paris is the perfect spot for a time tea, they have a rich variety of tea coming straight from Versailles.

You can read more about this beautiful tea place in my post here. They make the most delicious rose cake I have ever tasted.

Enjoy A Drink En Terasse

Drinking coffee or any drink “en terrasse” is a pretty strong mindset of anyone living in Paris.

Whether Spring, Summer, Autumn or even Winter, you will witness Parisians across the city sipping their coffees or drinks outside the bar!

It’s part of our culture!

So, if you want to blend in on a sunny spring afternoon, it’s a perfect way! Most people have coffee, but if, like me, you don’t like coffee (yes, I am French, and I don’t like coffee, I know), you can always enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or, even better, some wine or cider!

Explore Montmartre Vineyard – Clos Montmartre

visiting paris in spring: discover Montmartre secret Vineyard

Montmartre is undoubtedly one of Paris’s most famous areas; it comprises a large part of the 18th arrondissement. Artists (Renoir or Van Gogh, for example) have made it famous, and it is often referred to as ‘Montmartre Village’ because of its cobbled lanes, rich history, and many secrets.

The most famous landmarks of Montmartre are the Sacré-Coeur Basilica and Place du Tertre, among others.

A great thing to do in Montmartre in spring would be to visit the vineyard “Clos Montmartre.” Yes, there is a vineyard in Montmartre, in Paris. You can tour the vineyard and buy your bottles.

Stroll Along The Seine and check out the bridges

what to do in Paris in Spring: stroll through Pont Alexander III
Pont Alexandre III

Paris is crossed by La Seine, which means there are plenty of unique bridges and sights to enjoy along the river, whether on the Rive Gauche or the Rive Droite.

You can join whichever side of the city you want by crossing any of those bridges, although a few of Paris’ bridges don’t travel a body of water!

You will see beautiful bridges and views over the city and inevitably see more of it. After all, there’s no better way to explore a city than walking its streets.

The most beautiful bridges in Paris are the following:

Pont Alexandre III
– Pont de la Concorde
– Pont Des Arts
– Pont Neuf
– Pont Mirabeau

Take a boat down the Seine – Bateau Mouche

View of paris by night.

Of course, you can do this all year round, but I believe, and I’m sure, most will agree that Spring is the best season to cruise down the Seine to see all of Paris’s landmarks from a different perspective!

If you’re not too keen on the idea, you can still enjoy a boat on the Seine for dinner or a drink. Lots of them offer fancy dinners with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
Enjoying your meal on the Seine while watching the Iron Lady twinkle in the fresh air of a Spring night is a pretty romantic activity.

Last but not least, if a fancy dinner on the Seine isn’t your cup of tea and you’re into partying, a heap of boats offer parties across the Seine; some don’t cruise along the Seine, but some do! It’s up to you to decide what you prefer!

Take A Day Trip From Paris

I know this post focuses specifically on Paris, but if you’re visiting Paris for a week or longer, you might want to consider taking one—or two-day trips to enjoy more of France. Here are some day trips I’d recommend taking in spring near Paris.

day trip giverny
Monet’s Garden

Giverny – Monet’s House and Garden

Giverny is the perfect spring day trip from Paris. This quaint town is located only 50 minutes by train from the capital. It is a straightforward day trip.

Giverny was home to Monet, the famous painter. You can visit the painter’s house and beautiful garden, where he got inspiration for some famous paintings. Enjoy drinks at the local cafes and relax away from Paris.

mt saint michel in winter

Mont Saint Michel

Mont Saint Michel is a trendy destination; this iconic historical islet sees millions of tourists flock there yearly.

It is also a very popular day trip from Paris. However, the narrow streets make it quickly crowded. While the best time to avoid the crowd is to visit Mt Saint Michel in Winter, Spring is still great as it’s slightly less crowded than during the summer holiday.

And in spring, you enjoy walking around the islet at low tide! It’s a beautiful nature day trip to a very unique part of France!

Guide To DisneyLand Paris

Enjoy The Magic At Disneyland Paris

There are two Disneyland Parks near Paris, Disneyland Paris & Walt Disney Studio. Spring is a fantastic time to visit as the park gets dressed up for easter, and it’s adorable!

Disneyland parks are very popular among locals and tourists as they are the only Disneyland Parks in Europe. Even if spring is a better time to visit than summer, I’d still recommend avoiding visiting during holiday time and weekends.

And that’s a wrap on my best things to do in Paris in spring; with all those great activities, you have everything you need to know to make the most of your Paris vacation and enjoy springtime in the French capital.

✈ Best Travel Ressources To Plan Your Next Trip

If you need help planning your next trip, don’t worry. I’ve got you covered! Here are my favourite websites and apps to plan a trip!

✈ How To Find Flights?

My favourite website for booking flights is Skyscanner; it is a good comparator for finding the cheapest flights.
Google Flight is also a good help when it comes to comparing flights.

✈ Where To Book Accommodations?

The best sites to book accommodations are Booking.com or Expedia. They both allow you to collect points for a discount; it’s worth comparing the two as they often have different pricing for the same hotels.

Another perk of Booking.com and Expedia is that you can sometimes get bundle deals for flights and accommodations, which can help you save a lot of money.

✈ Best Sites To Book Activities

My go-to website when I need to book an activity is GetYourGuide when I can’t get a ticket directly on the website or if it’s easier to go through them.
I always check if the price is the same, though, as the whole point is for it to be easier but not more expensive.

You can also check out Klook if you need to book more than just activities and would like to get everything from the same website—(i.e. transport cards, car rental, hotel…).

✈ Other helpful travel resources

Radical Storage: If you need a place to keep your luggage for an extended period when you travel, I recommend using them. It was a great help when we needed a place to keep our luggage safely while we left the city for a few days.
TheTrainline: If you love to travel by train like me, then TheTrainline needs to be your go-to website for train travel in Europe. It is very reliant and easy to use.
