Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is visited every year by 4.5 million tourists; it is undoubtedly a pretty popular European destination.
The impressive architecture, the charm of the authentic streets, the delicious treats!
And if even after you still doubt that Lisbon is the perfect destination for your next vacation, then those 20 photos to inspire you to visit Lisbon will make you add it to your bucket list!

My first time in Portugal, we decided to visit the Algarve, we had the best time. This part of Portugal is stunning and a must-visit in my book; if you’d like to see it yourself, check out those 20 photos to inspire you to visit the Algarve.
However, we are not here to talk about the Algarve today but about Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and to show you 20 photos to inspire you to visit this vibrant city, as well as main spots to see in the town and some anecdotes about my trip to give this photo diary some peps!

20 Photos To Inspire You To Visit Lisbon, Portugal
This year isn’t full-on travel. As a little reminder from my trip last year to the capital of Portugal, I decided to compile 20 photos to inspire you to visit Lisbon as I did previously on other posts with Bristol, Corfu and Boracay…
And many more to come in the future, so make sure to subscribe to my newsletter at the bottom of this post for more great travel content and my stories delivered right into your email box!

As I said, for my first time in Portugal, I went to the Algarve, which is not so far from Lisbon as Portugal isn’t a big country, yet I sensed that the atmosphere was still really different from those two areas of Portugal.
While near the sea, Lisbon is still very much a city, different from other big cities (i.e. Paris or Milan). It has its unique charm with the narrow, steep streets, distinctive architecture, and colours. It is a world of its own that everyone needs to visit at least once in their life.

If you heard about Lisbon, then you might already hear or see those places in photos. And, if you haven’t yet, here are the top places in Lisbon you need to visit!
- Alfama neighbourhood
- Praça Do Comércio
- Avenida Da Liberdade
- Castelo de S. Jorge
- Rossio Square
- Santa Justa Lift
- Belem Tower
- Madalena
- Miradouro Das Portas Do Sol
- Tram 28
- Monastery Of Jeronimos
- Largo Do Calhariz
You need to add those places to your Lisbon Bucket List if you’re planning to spend 2 or 3 days in Lisbon!
Then you see the highlights of the capital of Portugal!

A great thing to do when you visit Lisbon is to check out Belem, where you can eat the most delicious pasta de natal, but you can also visit the Tower of Belem.
If you remember correctly, the closing hours, so you don’t miss visiting it.
Yes, I speak from personal experience, but it wasn’t as bad then to decide to visit Sintra on a rainy AND foggy day.
That’s a story for another day, because trust me, travel fail like this one makes amazing stories to tell later on.

I have to say I was sad when it was time for us to leave Lisbon and go back to Paris, the weather was so lovely there at the time, and Paris was suffering from a heatwave…
Also, I wished I had more time to wander the streets of Lisbon and see places that were further from the city centre that we didn’t make time to visit as we didn’t want to rush through this trip.
I also wish we didn’t get catcalled as much as we did, from men in their car or on the street…and worse of all, I wish I could unsee that guy who decided in broad daylight to pleasure himself close to use on a square, like what? What is wrong with men…Lisbon might be one of the places I got catcalled the most, I think.
Rushing while you travel to cram in your schedule is, I think, one of the top travel mistakes to avoid nowadays. That’s why we took our sweet time to explore and soak in the atmosphere of Lisbon (and avoid uncomfortable situations). Sure, we missed some spots, but at least that’s a good excuse to come back.
It’s not like you ever need an excuse to come back to visit a place you loved, though. I do that all the time.

So, are you feeling inspired yet to visit Lisbon? I sure hope so! The capital of Portugal is full of surprises and unique places to visit; between the city vibe and the chill vibe of the beach, this city is the perfect mix of everything and will make every traveller happy.
Consider Lisbon and add it to your bucket list; whether you’re a solo traveller or a family/friend group, it’s a perfect destination for a European vacation. A travel guide to Lisbon on how to spend 3 days there will follow shortly, so make sure to like my Facebook page to be notified when it’s out!
